About us

A leader in the manufacture and overhaul of rail vehicles and steel structures.

A name with tradition

Goša FŠV production hall

“GOŠA” Rail Vehicle Factory is one of the leading manufacturers of railway rolling stock in the former Yugoslavia. Throughout the decades of the factory’s existence, its main references have been, above all, the manufacture and overhaul of passenger coaches that meet the requirements of the international UIC standards, the production of diesel multiple units (railbuses), electric multiple units and special types of freight wagons (car-carrier wagons, refrigerated wagons and tank wagons), as well as the fabrication of steel structures.

Since 1996 the factory has had an ISO 9001 quality system, and all welding processes are certified to European standards, for which the factory holds approvals from the Serbian and Slovak railways.

Following its privatization in 2007, “Goša” Rail Vehicle Factory became part of the renowned Slovak company “ŽOS Trnava” a.s., when a new production program – the manufacture of new freight wagons – was introduced alongside the existing one. With the introduction of the “EANOS” type freight wagon and Y25 type bogies (TSI certificate) into the production program in 2007, the factory achieved significant exports to the European market, became Serbia’s exporter of the year and received the SIEPA award.

Development

The factory was founded in 1923 with Serbian and French capital under the name “Jasenica AD”, as a workshop for wagon overhaul and the fabrication of steel structures. Over time, the factory specialized and adopted new standards and products.

JŽ/ŽS series 812 are passenger diesel railcars built at the Goša wagon factory in Smederevska Palanka from 1959 to 1969 under license from the German company Uerdingen, popularly known as the “Šinobus” (railbus).

In the early 1950s, it was decided to import a significant number of diesel multiple units to run on local lines, i.e. lines with fewer passengers. After research, the decision was made to purchase the Uerdingen VT 95 series K-1 railcar. The first 10 sets, painted red, arrived in 1955 and successfully completed test runs on domestic lines, after which it was decided to buy the license for their production. The aim was to achieve an acceptable price for the large-scale replacement of steam locomotives, as well as stability in their maintenance.

Production was mastered at the Goša wagon factory in Smederevska Palanka, which delivered the first silver-colored sets to the railway in 1959.

The basic set consists of a motor car (MK) and a trailer (PK). The motor car is fitted with a four-stroke Büssing U10 diesel engine and has a maximum speed of 90 km/h. Power is transmitted mechanically via a fluid coupling. The mechanical gearbox has 6 gears. In the imported series the brake is a Knorr air brake, while the rail brake, which is a friction brake, is fitted only on motor cars from no. 051 onwards. Up to 4 sets, from serial number 039 onwards, can run in multiple.

A total of 270 sets were produced, and in the 1960s and early 1970s they replaced steam locomotives on a large scale on local lines in Yugoslavia.

Due to their age, most Goša 812 sets have been withdrawn from service, while Serbian Railways have been gradually replacing the remaining sets with DMV 711 series units since March 2012.

Goša 410

The Goša 410 is a three-car passenger electric multiple unit built at the Goša wagon factory in Smederevska Palanka during the 1970s. A total of three sets were produced, popularly known as “Leteći Šumadinac” (the Flying Šumadian).

After the electrification of major railway lines in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Goša’s engineers decided to develop a passenger electric multiple unit for the Yugoslav railways, intended for suburban and regional services. After some time, a prototype was built – a three-car electric multiple unit, a diode traction vehicle for the 25 kV, 50 Hz single-phase system, with the motor car in the middle (UK – MK – UK) and a 2’2’+Bo’Bo’+2’2’ axle arrangement. The train was fitted with Groupment electrical equipment and Wegmann bogies with disc brakes. The Goša 410 had pneumatic and electro-resistive Oerlikon-Rapid brakes, and its automatic couplers were Scharfenberg. By the end of the 1970s, three sets had been built and handed over to ŽTP Beograd for trials.
